Serving the community is my pride and I feel it is my asset. I will always honour and respect my position as Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Australia as it provides me with a lot of personal satisfaction for all work I do with our community everyday. I am also very proud to be the member of this great community .

                                                                                   Chandra Yonzon I चन्द्र योन्जन

Hon. Consul General of Nepal, Chandra Yonzon is a well-known figure among the Nepalese diaspora living in Australia, he has been working tirelessly to help the Nepalese community in Victoria, Australia.

Born in the year 1961 in a small remote village Change (चाग्ङे) of Taplejung (ताप्लेजुङ्) district, eastern part of Himalayan nation –NEPAL, Mr Chandra Yonzon migrated to Australia in the year 1989 together with his lovely wife Laxmi and little daughter Seruna at the time. Son Rabi was born in Melbourne in 1992. He has grown as a young immigrant to becoming one of the most successful business entrepreneurs in Australia.

Mr Yonzon started his first business venture as a hospitality man. His first business venture with his renown restaurant chain “GURKHAS” brand which he created as family business was very popular in Melbourne diners for many years since 1990’s till today. Mr Yonzon is successful business entrepreneur in his specialized field of hospitality, travel and tourism. He was also the founder of “Gurkhas Travel” in Melbourne and a popular local hotel “Dolma” a name taken from their daughter Seruna whose birth name given by priest was “DOLMA” because she was born on Sunday. Mr Yonzon was the founder of “Rodhi Ghar” another popular restaurant in Melbourne.

He was also one of the founders of NRNa organization in Australia, the founding Vice President of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNa) and also the founding Vice President of Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV), Australia. Mr Yonzon also serves as advisors and patrons of many local organizations.

Because of his love, care and involvement with community he also likes to read and write articles himself, loves music and Entertainment, participate in many social activities organized by local community. He appreciates all those good works done by the community leaders and see the importance of bringing out those good work done by local community members. One of his interest is to promote those young talents to the outside world through media.

For this above reason Mr Yonzon also has big interest in media sector and is also the Chairman of the local Media organization “The Nepalese Voice” and My Nepal TV (MNTV) Australia.

A simple man with good heart Hon. Consulate General of Nepal to Victoria, Mr Chandra Yonzon has come a long way with his sheer determination and hard work. Also, as a founder and CEO of Greenhill Education Group Pty Ltd trading as RGIT Australia, an Education Institution in Australia, he has worked towards helping the Nepalese community since his settlement in Australia in early 1990s. His dedication and hard work in his social services is phenomenal. Mr Yonzon is always ready to serve and assist to anyone who need assistance which he has been doing all the time since his early days despite being an honorary Consul General in 2008. His new position as Hon. Consul General has given him even more responsibility which he has been doing respectfully for the last 12 years or more.

Also, as the Hon. Consul General of Nepal, Mr Chandra Yonzon and his team at Consulate office in Central Business District (CBD) has been providing efficient and transparent consular services to Nepalese and Australian community in Victoria. 

Always striving to provide better facilities and bring the Nepalese community together, Mr Chandra Yonzon is also a generous philanthropist, had contributed a huge of sum $100,000 to build a community center in Melbourne. He and his wife Laxmi have also contributed in many other charity organizations over the years.

Mr Yonzon a family man sees importance of family values. He has his lovely wife Laxmi Yonzon and 2 beautiful children Seruna and Rabi Yonzon. Recently there are new addition in their family, Mr Suraj Singh Ayer, their son in law and new arrival baby girl “Aaliyah” as their granddaughter.

Chandra Yonzon a name given by his mother to enroll in a local CHANGE (चाग्ङे) Middle school of TAPLEJUNG district at the age of 5. Mr Yonzon is proud to be the member of “Gurkha” family.  Grandfather Captain Parsu Ram Tamang served in British army for more than 30 years and acclaimed “Captain” position, one of the highest-ranking positions one could get in British Gurkha brigade. It was not easy to achieve that position from an illiterate ordinary citizen who came from a very poor and remote Himalayan kingdom at that time but achieved it. He retired from British army in 1963.

Mr Yonzon admire of his grandfather who was his role model, his inspirations who always gave family and their education as his first and top priority. He is proud to be his grandson.  

Majority of Mr Yonzon’s family served in British army as “Gurkha soldiers” and that was one of the reasons Mr Yonzon wanted to promote Gurkhas for their bravery and wanted to let people know what is Gurkhas, therefore he named his popular chain of restaurant called  “Gurkhaswww.gurkhas.com.au 

Beside his grandfather Capt. Parsu Ram Tamanag, Rtd. Captain- Mr Naina B Tamang an uncle, Rtd. Gorkha Major-Mr Karna Sher Tamang a youngest uncle, Rtd. Sargent-Mr Robin Tamang an uncle, Prakash Tamang-brother in law served many years and some of them are still serving in the British army as Gurkha Soldiers.
